Early Life and Education
Born in 1966 in Wuwei County, Anhui Province, China, Wang faced early hardships, losing both parents before starting school. He was raised by his elder siblings, who supported his education. Wang earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Central South University of Technology and later obtained a master’s degree in materials science from the Beijing Non-Ferrous Research Institute.
Career
In 1995, Wang founded BYD in Shenzhen, initially focusing on rechargeable batteries. The company quickly became a leading global supplier of mobile phone batteries. Recognizing the potential of electric mobility, Wang expanded BYD’s operations into the automotive sector in 2003, establishing BYD Auto. The company has since developed a comprehensive range of electric and hybrid vehicles, contributing significantly to the global shift toward sustainable transportation.

Electric Vehicle Leadership: Under Wang’s guidance, BYD has become a dominant player in the EV market, surpassing traditional automakers in sales. In 2023, BYD sold a record 526,000 battery-only EVs, topping Tesla’s 484,000.
