Early Life and Education
Born on January 19, 1983, in Rockledge, Florida, Scaringe developed an early passion for automobiles. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2005 and later pursued graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he obtained a Master of Science in 2007 and a Ph.D. in 2009.
Career
In 2009, Scaringe founded Mainstream Motors, which was later rebranded as Rivian Automotive in 2011. The company initially operated in stealth mode, focusing on developing electric vehicle technology. Rivian gained significant attention in 2018 with the unveiling of its R1T electric pickup truck and R1S SUV, both designed for off-road capabilities and sustainability. In November 2021, Rivian went public, listing its shares on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
