Dr. Rajiv J. Shah is a distinguished physician, economist, and executive, currently serving as the President of The Rockefeller Foundation. Early Life and Education
Born on March 9, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan, to Indian Gujarati immigrant parents, Dr. Shah was raised in Ann Arbor. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Michigan, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He also holds a Master of Science in Health Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Career
Dr. Shah’s career encompasses roles in government, philanthropy, and the private sector. As USAID Administrator, he led the U.S. response to international crises, including the Haiti earthquake and the West African Ebola outbreak. He also initiated reforms to modernize the agency’s operations.
In 2017, Dr. Shah became the President of The Rockefeller Foundation, where he has directed efforts toward innovative solutions in health, food, power, and economic mobility. Under his leadership, the Foundation has launched initiatives to promote renewable energy and sustainable development.

Climate Strategy: In September 2023, Dr. Shah announced The Rockefeller Foundation’s commitment to invest $1 billion over five years to scale solutions that advance opportunity and address the climate crisis.
