Green.org sat down with Green Success Stories founder Sheldon Gladstein, to learn how he built a business around his passion for sustainable storytelling.

Sheldon, thank you for being here. Tell us a little bit about your background.
I’ve always had a passion for sustainability, in the largest sense of the word. It’s up to us to safeguard the world for ourselves and for future generations. We need to appreciate the world we have, and continually make it better. I’m also a big fan of technology and our ability to use our wits to make creative solutions to difficult problems, climate-change included. In my work experience, I’ve spent 30+ years as a technical writer and marketing writer. I make complicated subject matter clear and easy to understand. I make readers care about what they reading about, and get them to enjoy reading it. Green Success Stories combines all that – great writing about great solutions to climate change. We highlight leaders in sustainability with engaging content that spreads the message. We focus on the positive, creative ways that people make the world better.
What would you do with $1 billion dollars?
1. Coffee, bagels, and cinnamon rolls for breakfast every day for the rest of my life (not really, but maybe every other day). 2. I’d invest some of it wisely, to make sure my family was well taken care of financially, in a way that regenerates. 3. I would invest in community food projects that would help underserved populations grow their own food and no longer suffer from food insecurity. 4. I would create a climate tech endowment for promising projects that tackle the whole range of climate change solutions. 5. A nice vacation or two would be nice as well.
Why do you think sustainability is such an important topic today?
I believe we need to make this world a better place for all. We’ve been doing a pretty lousy job of that – just look at the damage we’ve caused. But it’s not too late. I believe in our abilities to work for positive change. I believe in positivity, not scolding. When people feel the benefits, they become engaged. Green Success Stories helps promote the good work that people do in this field. We get people to understand the benefits, and to support those who are making this world a better place for all.
What do you envision your industry looking like in ten years?
The future is green. People are seeing the benefits of renewable energy; in many situations it’s simply cheaper and just as effective, if not more so. The green sector is the fastest growing job sector in the US. With help promoting great people and great solutions, our future will be a Green Success Story.
