Mark Campanale, Founder & Executive Chairman of Carbon Tracker Initiative

Tell us a little bit about you and your background:

Prior to Carbon Tracker, I had twenty years experience in sustainable financial markets, being a co-founder of some of the first responsible investment funds at Jupiter Asset Management, NPI, AMP Capital, & Henderson Global Investors. I served on the World Business Council for Sustainable Development working group on capital markets leading up to the 1992 Earth Summit; was a Member of the Steering Committee of UNEP Financial Sector Initiative, was a founder of the UK Sustainable & Responsible Investment Forum (UKSIF); & are now on the Advisory Board of GFANZ, the Glasgow Finance Alliance for Net Zero.

What is a fun fact about you?

I’m an identical twin. He worked at the BBC for many years as a news producer. We’re often confused, sometimes by public figures, which has its own amusement factor

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?

Our generation will know whether or not we’ve dealt with it head on. Or not. And we’ll be able to see and feel the consequences of our decisions, not just for our generation but all future generations.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

Carbon Tracker exists to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels into clean alternatives. I’m hoping we’ve cracked the big part of that over the next decade

What can the average person do to make a difference?

Get involved, join an advocacy group, or make a lifestyle change. Do learn about what happens to your pension money, greening it is crucial to whether we succeed in the transition or not
