This week, Green had the opportunity to connect with Thomas Loredo of Nessel Energy, a company that provides sustainable energy solutions for real estate owners and developers. Nessel leverages 20 years of real estate experience across commercial, multifamily, and industrial properties to provide unparalleled energy advising and services.

The team at Nessel Energy and Nessel Development are also focused on broader philanthropic efforts. Their parent entity, Mobius Life, donates the majority of its yearly profits to causes such as equality for farm animals, plant-based foods, and alternative protein food sources. In 2020, Nessels’ support for these causes was just under $10M.

Nessel believes in a holistic approach to improving the health of the planet, people, and animals. Let’s get to know the people at Nessel, specifically Thomas Loredo:

Tell us a little bit about you, your background, and your current role:

My name is Thomas Loredo; as the Managing Director at Nessel Energy, I focus my strategic and entrepreneurial skills to manage our projects in commercial construction and renewable energy. Integrity and remaining adaptable in ever-evolving environments are some of my key attributes.

Within the solar industry, I’ve identified business opportunities and secured three valuable ‘Solarize Connecticut’ contracts following an extensive proposal writing process. I’ve led my team to two consecutive ‘SunPower National Producer of the Year’ awards as the company with the most annual sales. I transformed a small commercial solar provider producing small 50-150kW deals to a large commercial provider originating multi-megawatt deals in the community solar market

At Nessel, my focus is on creating a unique solar offering combining a real estate approach, providing additional NOI and reduced OPEX for building owners by leasing rooftops and selling discounted electricity. My role is to lead new business development, stakeholder relations, project management, and origination efforts to new markets.

As a company, Nessel maintains strong environment standards, such as use of sustainable natural materials, renewable energy, water conservation and CO2 reduction. We support advancing social issues, including plant based living, workforce diversity, human rights, poverty reduction, and improvement of animal suffering through our non-profit initiatives. We seek more than profitability; we actively contribute positively to environmental and social causes, and responsibly conduct ourselves and our business.

What is a fun fact about you?

I love to laugh, enjoy life and my family. I also enjoy a good scotch.

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?

The basic right of all future generations is to inherit a sustainable, clean planet from its forefathers. This includes food chain sources and diversity in alternative protein foods, clean air and water, and economic equality for all mankind

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

More deployment and interaction with renewable energy by all market sectors, and a general embracing of alternative food sources as a way to save the planet.

What can the average person do to make a difference?

Get involved; start by learning how to change your food sources, recycle your garbage and most importantly: care about others.
