Tell us a little bit about you and your background:
I’m a tinker, an out-of-the-box thinker, who’s always eager to get their hands dirty and build something cool. I have a saying that I’ve lived by for years: challenges never scare me; closed-minded people scare me!
I believe that this statement is very telling when it comes to the type of person I am and the beliefs that I hold sacred. I’m here to help make the world a better place even if it’s just to do my one small little part… whatever that may be. I believe that we all have skills and talents that we’ve been endowed with and it’s our job to use those skills and gifts to the best of our ability to make positive changes and contributions while we’re here on this earth. I believe this with every fiber of my being and so it’s how I try to live my life by being appreciative, thankful and working hard to take the opportunities each and every day to make a positive difference… even if just a small one.
What is a fun fact about you?
I went to college as a music major, but graduated with a Psychology Degree. I graduated top of my AIT class in the US Army as a 92B10, Medical Laboratory Specialist, but began working straight out of college as a Computer Tech Support person. Now, I tinker with clean energy in all of my spare time!
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
I believe it’s a very important topic because we only have one earth, one home to us all. Right now the economy we live in seems to reward people for raping and pillaging our earth and our environment. If you do that to a person, you’re punished – yet to do it to our planet, you’re rewarded? In many ways I think this type of crime (against our planet) should be treated as the highest form of treason, even more than against one’s country since it’s against our earth and ultimately harms everyone.
We need to find a way to restructure our economy so that those who are protecting or developing technologies to help our planet are the ones rewarded the most. Clearly, we have it backwards, because right now we live in the reverse of this paradigm where, generally, those who are most rewarded are those causing the greatest damage: big oil, big pharma, big meat and dairy productions – the list goes on an on.
What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
Well, you might think that I’m in favor of big wind and big solar because we are, after all, a wind turbine developer ourselves – but you would be mistaken!
I envision our industry supplanting the big wind and big solar industries and replacing them with smaller decentralized power all over every corner of the planet. Big wind and big solar are already causing a HUGE amount of damage and harm to our planet but no one sees that because they’re “GREEN”, right? Wrong, if we can’t stand to live beside 500Ft tall wind turbines, what makes us think that we have the right to force the other inhabitants of our planet, who are already pushed to the furthest corners we can imagine, to have to live with these atrocities? Sonic vibrations, constant noise – if this gives us a headache what does it do to poor animals who often hear 10x better than we do? And don’t even get me started about putting them off-shore where water carries sound much farther than air does. We literally have our heads up our backsides if we think this is the way to a green future!
We need to shrink the technology to levels that we’re happy living and existing beside. If we can happily live with solar and wind right on our homes and around our lives, then the rest of the world can do it too. No one seems to think about these things and we just keep pushing to maintain an old failing energy grid system; we try to find any way at all to charge customers money for the things that are given to us freely from mother earth: sun, water, wind etc. They would charge us for the very air we breathe if they could; perhaps soon, if we keep going this way, they will finally be able to do just that.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
Stop believing the quick and easy answers. Stop swallowing the drivel that’s posted on websites and social media sponsored by companies and organizations who make MONEY their primary goal. We need to start sharing information and financially supporting the truly disruptive technologies that can be helpful to our environment. Money cannot be our primary goal anymore, we need to be better than this – we must be better than this.
Begin to openly share and support technologies that are working on DECENTRALIZED R&D that can be deployed anywhere in the world to supply basic necessities of life. If you can’t support these efforts with money then do it with your time by finding, sharing and posting about these better options. Any time we allow large companies to control these necessities, no matter how “GREEN” that method is, we, by extension, make ourselves a slave to those companies.
