Highlighting Leaders in Renewable Energy

Katherine Ryzhaya, CEO at Marvel Power Group

Going Green had the chance to sit down with Katherine Ryzhaya, CEO at Marvel Power Group, to learn about her journey to working in renewable energy. Katherine has an amazing background in all things cleantech, sustainability, and renewable power, and are excited to share her story.

Tell us a little bit about you and your background:

I’ve worked in renewable power and gas for 15 years and in a few different functions. My experience ranges from executive stints at large firms down to starting my own clean tech businesses. I’m incredibly passionate about people, innovation, deal making, and feeling like a positive, contributing member of our society.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have a tremendous phobia of pigeons! Italian piazzas are permanently off my list.

What was your motivation to get into this industry?

I got into the renewable energy industry by chance and have been grateful for that path every day of the 15 years I’ve done it.

Katherine Ryzhaya has 15 years working in renewable energy.

Why do you think climate change/sustainability is such an important topic today?

We are living in a time when global pandemics and heightened climate events are bringing us to our knees. Wildfires, hurricanes, storms — all the result of changing natural patterns. Previous generations enjoyed oblivion, then denial. Our generation and the ones that follow have no choice. We have to unwind the mistakes of the past.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

Hopefully thriving, with all embracing science and big corporations making impacts commensurate with their statures and influence.

What can the average person do to make a difference?

Simply talk and inspire the need for action in our local communities. Elect officials that contribute to reversing the man-made effects of climate change.

What positive changes are you seeing?

Young people are motivated and educated about climate change and the repercussions. This is the first step and we’re the first generation that is actively tackling issues. We’ve removed the “we vs. them” blinders and want to solve our joint problems together.

Thank you Katherine for taking the time and sharing your experience in renewable energy.
